First Day in Dubai

Here is some of the shots from our first day in Dubai, UAE. We were still pretty jet lagged (no help from the hairy one that I call a son) but, we were off to see what we had gotten ourselves into.

We were standing out front of our new temporary digs to wait for our ride into the city.

Here is the very new complex that we are staying in. There is only one other person in these units until next week I think. It looks like a mirage this place when you see it from the road. All of these buildings in the middle of the desert.

Kenny off to his first day of the new job!

I wondered why it was so cloudy until it was explained to me that we were in the middle of a sandstorm! It wasn't as bad as the one in The Mummy but, did make driving a bit challenging.

Glad I'm not on the outside of the car!

This is the Mall of the Emirates. This is where Kenny's new studios are going to be. It is (when completed in a year or so) going to be the biggest mall in the world.
Inside is Ski Dubai! Not quite the same as the ski slopes that we have been seeing the last 6 months in Reno but, enjoyable none the less! I am sure that I am as capable of breaking a limb in there as the ones up at Tahoe.

Here is the one of the places to sit and relax outside at the Mall of the Emirates. It is amazing to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine while you look up and see the outside of the ski resort next to you.

Just before we took this shot the fountain was alive with music and spouts going everywhere. Of course we missed that with the camera and you'll just have to do with me in front of it!

Kenny and I enjoying the out of doors. Still looking a little tired but, there is still so much more of this place to see.

The inside of this mall is just unbelievable. I spent over 4 hours in here and never saw the whole thing! There are stores from everywhere. All the top designers, all the major names from all over the world together. It would be nice not to have to cross the border any more to shop at some of our favorites on the US side at home!

Here are some shots of Ski Dubai. This is inside the Mall. What a crazy thing to see... 85 outside and kids and adults (for that matter) racing in to get geared up to play in the snow!

Inside this center you can rent EVERYTHING!!! Coats, gloves, hats, as well as skis, snowboards and sleds to enjoy.

Snow in the UAE! Most of the kids out there have never seen such a thing. They were having a blast. It made me feel bad for cursing the driveway at Mom's house. They would say the same about the sand here I am sure.

This is the location of the permanent Coast Studios. Overlooking the cinemas, the Border's Books and for the Canadian's reading this... the Second Cup! It will be glass so that everyone will be able to see up and watch Kenny do his thing on air. As you can see they are a long way off finishing them but, it is in the works.

This is the outside of the Emirates Mall. Kepinski's is one of the many luxury hotels in the area.

Well, it's off to bed for me. Not sure what time it is at home but, I am struggling to keep my eyes open. It was a great first day here and I am so grateful for the opportunity to be here for a new adventure.
